"Retail, like most businesses, never likes to close operation. So Jonathan was tasked with many structural designs. But he also was assigned execution project management of several difficult Hy-Vee store expansions. Planning both how to “pull off” and exterior wall or front door and how to “tie in” new structure with the expanded building or new front facade is a huge design challenge. But then to orchestrate it physically with suppliers and multiple trades is another professional challenge. Beyond the technical execution, the real job was communicating, protecting and in some instances placating our customers and store teams. That implementation takes professional knowledge, setting performance expectations, constant communication to multiple constituents and some compassion when things were askew.
